Split sits on the Dalmatian coast, built almost entirely around and inside a Roman emperor’s retirement palace, a genuinely different character from the smaller islands and towns nearby: a living UNESCO old town, a busy working harbor, and a palm-lined waterfront promenade rather than a quiet village square. This page looks at Split specifically, separate from the Croatia country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings across the area, below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Split

Split works well for a couple who wants real Roman history in the background without a full resort wedding, the Radisson Blu’s outdoor deck and indoor ballroom both scale from an intimate dinner to several hundred guests.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Split: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Split as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues at Split

A beachfront resort with its own outdoor deck over the Adriatic, plus the ancient palace the old town is built inside for portraits.

Wedding venue near Split

Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Split
A beachfront resort a short drive from the city center, built around an outdoor VIP Deck of roughly 1,100 square meters that holds up to 300 guests, with a jetty and staging areas looking straight out over the Adriatic. Indoors, the resort’s main ballroom holds up to 360 guests theatre-style, with several smaller rooms for a rehearsal dinner or a more intimate wedding.

Diocletian’s Palace, Old Town
Not an independently bookable venue. This is the 1,700-year-old Roman palace that Split’s old town is actually built inside and around, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979 and still a living neighborhood of homes, shops, and the Cathedral of St Domnius. A ceremony inside it needs a separate civil or church booking through the city rather than a venue rental, but it’s an extraordinary setting for portraits.

Riva Waterfront and Marjan Hill
Portrait-only. The Riva is Split’s palm-lined seafront promenade, busy with evening light and city energy, while Marjan Hill, a forested peninsula above the old town, gives a quieter, elevated view back over the rooftops and the harbor.

Your Split Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Split wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Croatia page?

The Croatia page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at Split, a Dalmatian coastal city built around a 1,700-year-old Roman palace rather than a smaller Adriatic island or town.

What’s the best time of year for a Split wedding?

Late May, June, and September give warm weather without July and August’s cruise-ship crowds through Diocletian’s Palace. Split stays busy with ferry and cruise traffic most of the summer, worth building into your ceremony timing.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Split Airport has direct seasonal and year-round connections to most of Europe and sits about 25 minutes from the city, making it one of the more convenient Dalmatian airports for international guests.

Can we actually get married inside Diocletian’s Palace?

The Palace itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a living neighborhood, not an independently bookable venue, so a ceremony inside it needs a separate civil or religious booking through the city, and portraits there need no permit for a small group. I’d plan the reception at a dedicated venue like the Radisson Blu and treat the Palace as a backdrop for photographs.

Do we need a wedding planner in Split?

I’d recommend one if you want a ceremony inside the old town itself, since the permit and timing logistics around Diocletian’s Palace take local knowledge. A hotel-based wedding at the Radisson Blu is more straightforward, their events team coordinates in-house.
