Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage national park, five villages stacked into a cliff face with no cars and almost no flat ground, and that protection is exactly why it looks the way it does in every photo. It is also why a wedding here works differently from the rest of this site. There is no grand villa or castle buyout tucked into Monterosso or Manarola. Most weddings are a civil or symbolic ceremony on a terrace or in a small village church, followed by a reception at one of a handful of hotels built into the cliffs, with Portovenere, a UNESCO site of its own just south of the park, offering the one real castle in reach.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre works just as beautifully for intimate elopements as it does for larger and multi-day celebrations.

Wedding Videographer in Cinque Terre: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Cinque Terre as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

The Best Wedding Venues in Cinque Terre
Three venues across Cinque Terre and Portovenere, from Hotel Porto Roca’s cliffside terrace to Castello Doria’s fortress walls and Villa Marigola’s private beach.
Hotel Porto Roca, Monterosso al Mare
Built into the cliffs above Monterosso, the northernmost of the five villages, Hotel Porto Roca looks straight down over the old town and out across the Mediterranean. The hotel handles both ceremony and reception on-site, including catering, linens and rentals, which matters in a place where almost nothing else offers that in one package. The one tradeoff is the hillside position itself: guests and the wedding party typically make a few trips down into the old town for portraits, since the hotel sits above rather than inside the village.
Castello Doria, Portovenere
Just south of the Cinque Terre park, in the equally UNESCO-listed village of Portovenere, Castello Doria is a 12th century fortress rebuilt in the 15th century by the Republic of Genoa, sitting directly above the harbor. It is one of the few venues on this whole stretch of coast licensed for open-air civil ceremonies, running Monday through Saturday and Sunday mornings, April through October. Portovenere itself also has Fortress Umberto I on the island of Palmaria as a larger-capacity alternative if Castello Doria’s own numbers run too small for your guest list.
Villa Marigola, Lerici
Across the Gulf of Poets from Portovenere, roughly forty minutes by car, Villa Marigola is a 19th century estate with direct beachfront access and frescoed interiors that need no extra decoration. It holds 20 to 150 guests, with ceremonies possible directly on the private beach or in the gardens above it, and on-site accommodation for a multi-day celebration. It is the venue on this page for a couple who wants Cinque Terre’s coastline in their photos but needs more actual space, and a flatter, more workable property, than the park’s cliffside villages can offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we actually hold a wedding reception inside one of the five villages themselves?
In a limited way. Cinque Terre’s national park status means there is no large private villa or castle to buy out inside Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola or Riomaggiore. Most receptions happen at a hotel with its own terrace, like Hotel Porto Roca in Monterosso, or at a restaurant that can accommodate a private group, rather than a dedicated wedding estate. It is worth knowing this going in, since the scale here is genuinely different from a Tuscan villa wedding.

Civil ceremonies go through the town hall of whichever village you choose, and each of the five has its own comune office and its own rules and availability. Castello Doria in Portovenere is one of the few open-air sites in the area licensed for the ceremony itself, which is part of why it comes up so often in this area’s wedding planning.
What’s the best time of year for a Cinque Terre wedding?
May, June, September and early October give the best balance of weather and crowds. July and August bring the heaviest day-tripper traffic into all five villages, which affects everything from restaurant bookings to how easy it is to move a wedding party through the narrow streets.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Pisa and Genoa are the two realistic options, both roughly 90 minutes to two hours away depending on the exact village, or La Spezia’s smaller train station if guests are already elsewhere in Italy, since the villages themselves have no real parking and are best reached by train.
