Reykjavik weddings tend to run small and civil rather than grand, a short ceremony inside a genuine public building, followed by portraits around the harbour, the old town and the city’s volcanic rooftops. This page looks at Reykjavik specifically, separate from the wider Iceland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings across the city, a brief ceremony inside City Hall, portraits along the waterfront and up toward Hallgrimskirkja. Below is the real venue worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Reykjavik

Reykjavik works naturally for an intimate elopement, since the city’s own civil-ceremony venue is genuinely small, and a larger celebration is usually built around a separate hotel or restaurant booking afterward.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Reykjavik: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Reykjavik as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venue in Reykjavik

One confirmed civil-ceremony venue inside Reykjavik City Hall, plus the harbour and old town for portraits.

Wedding venue near Reykjavik

Reykjavik City Hall, Tjornin
A genuine civil-ceremony option run directly by the city, inside two third-floor halls, Turninn and Tjarnarbud, plus the larger Tjarnarsalur. Turninn or Tjarnarbud caps out at 20 guests, Tjarnarsalur at 50. Ceremonies run up to an hour, standing, and are bookable Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10am and 3pm, with a city event coordinator on hand for setup. It’s a genuinely small, no-frills option, the kind of venue that suits a couple who wants the legal ceremony itself to be brief and simple.

Reykjavik Harbour and Old Town
Not a bookable venue, but the natural choice for portraits after a City Hall ceremony, the colourful corrugated-iron houses of the old town, the harbour with Mount Esja across the bay, and Hallgrimskirkja’s distinctive concrete spire a short walk up the hill.

Your Reykjavik Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Reykjavik wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Iceland page?

The Iceland page on this site covers the whole country. This page looks specifically at Reykjavik, the small civil ceremony inside City Hall and the city itself for portraits.

Can City Hall really only hold 50 guests?

That’s the hall’s own published cap, for Tjarnarsalur, the larger of the three rooms. Turninn and Tjarnarbud hold just 20. It’s genuinely built for a small ceremony rather than a full wedding reception, so most couples plan a separate dinner or hotel booking afterward for a bigger celebration.

What do we need to legally marry in Iceland as foreign nationals?

Notice of marriage, birth certificates, a certificate of marital status, valid passports and certified translations where needed, submitted to the National Registry in Reykjavik at least three weeks ahead. A certified officiant, such as a District Commissioner, performs the ceremony itself, with two witnesses present.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Keflavik International Airport, about 45 minutes from Reykjavik city centre by road. It’s Iceland’s main gateway, with direct routes from across Europe and North America.

What’s the best time of year for a Reykjavik wedding?

May through September for the longest daylight and mildest weather. Winter has its own appeal too, shorter days but a real chance at the northern lights for an evening portrait session.
