Glacier Lagoon Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Jokulsarlon is a glacial lagoon on Iceland’s south coast, a genuinely dramatic backdrop rather than a bookable venue, icebergs calved from Breidamerkurjokull glacier drifting slowly out toward the sea. This page looks at the Glacier Lagoon specifically, separate from the wider Iceland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.
I photograph weddings and elopements here, portraits among the icebergs, a small ceremony on the black sand shore nearby. Below is what to know about the location itself, plus the questions couples ask me most before planning a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Glacier Lagoon
The Glacier Lagoon works best for a genuine elopement, since there’s no venue infrastructure here at all, just the landscape itself and whoever you bring with you.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Glacier Lagoon: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Glacier Lagoon as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
About the Glacier Lagoon
Not a bookable venue, a glacial lagoon within Vatnajokull National Park, and the black sand beach beside it.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
Part of Vatnajokull National Park, Europe’s largest national park, the lagoon fills with icebergs that break off Breidamerkurjokull glacier and drift across the dark water before reaching the sea. There’s no venue here, no indoor space and no infrastructure for a reception, this is a landscape backdrop for portraits and a small outdoor ceremony, not a bookable location. A short boat tour among the icebergs can be added for couples who want that in their photos.
Diamond Beach, Breidamerkursandur
The black sand beach directly across the road from the lagoon, named for the chunks of glacier ice that wash up and sit on the dark sand. It’s a genuinely striking, and genuinely cold and windy, spot for portraits, worth planning for with proper clothing rather than wedding attire alone.
Your Glacier Lagoon Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Glacier Lagoon wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

You send me a message with a few details about your wedding.
We schedule a free consultation call to understand your plans, your priorities, and see if our approach aligns.
If it feels right, we move forward – and on the day itself, you can be fully present while I take care of documenting everything.
Exploring the Rest of Iceland
Considering Iceland more broadly? the Iceland page lays out venues beyond just Glacier Lagoon.

If you’re planning your wedding in Glacier Lagoon and looking for photography that feels natural, intentional, and true to you, I’d love to hear more about your plans.
Take your time exploring the work. If it feels like the right fit, we can talk through your ideas and see how it all comes together.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this page different from your Iceland page?
The Iceland page on this site covers the whole country. This page looks specifically at the Glacier Lagoon on the south coast, a landscape location rather than a bookable venue.
Can we legally get married at the Glacier Lagoon?
Yes, but you’ll need to bring your own certified officiant, since there’s no venue staff or infrastructure here to arrange one for you. The same national paperwork applies as anywhere else in Iceland.
How far is it from Reykjavik?
About five hours’ drive along the south coast, so most couples build it into a multi-day trip rather than a single-day round trip, often paired with other south coast stops along the way.
What’s the best time of year for a Glacier Lagoon wedding?
Summer gives the longest daylight and easiest driving conditions. Winter brings the chance of ice caves and the northern lights, but also genuinely difficult road conditions on the Ring Road, worth planning carefully around.
Do we need a wedding planner for a Glacier Lagoon wedding?
I’d recommend one, mainly for the logistics, arranging a certified officiant, timing around weather and daylight, and coordinating the boat tour if you want one, rather than for anything venue-specific.
