Schiehallion Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Schiehallion is a 1,083-metre Munro in Perthshire, between Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch, and Loch Tummel, its Gaelic name translating as the fairy hill of the Caledonians. There’s no venue on the mountain itself. This page looks at Schiehallion specifically, separate from the Scotland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.
I photograph elopements and portraits against the mountain as a backdrop, with ceremonies held at the small hotel in the village below. Below is the one genuine venue worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Schiehallion
Schiehallion leans toward the intimate end of the scale, from a two-person elopement on the mountain itself to a 25-guest ceremony at the hotel in the village below.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Schiehallion: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Schiehallion as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
The Wedding Venues in Schiehallion
No venue sits on the mountain itself, so this page leans honest: one small hotel for the ceremony, and two real reasons to bring a camera up the glen.

Dunalastair Hotel Suites, Kinloch Rannoch
The closest genuine wedding venue to the mountain, in the village on Loch Rannoch. The Library holds a licensed ceremony for up to 25 guests, extending to 45 for a reception, with the whole hotel available for exclusive use and its own wedding planning support.
Schiehallion itself
Not a bookable venue, a Munro you walk up with your officiant and a small group, best suited to a genuine elopement rather than a full wedding day. It’s also where Nevil Maskelyne ran his 1774 experiment to estimate the mass of the Earth, using the mountain’s own gravity to deflect a pendulum.
Queen’s View, Loch Tummel
Not a venue either, but a portrait stop worth the detour: a viewpoint above Loch Tummel, named for a queen before Victoria’s 1866 visit, with the full length of the loch leading the eye west to Schiehallion itself.
Your Schiehallion Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Schiehallion wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

If it feels right, we move forward – and on the day itself, you can be fully present while I take care of documenting everything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we actually get married on Schiehallion itself?
Yes for a genuine elopement, with a small group willing to walk up with you and an officiant, but there’s no infrastructure on the mountain, so it works far better as an elopement than as a full wedding day.
What’s the nearest real venue if we want a proper ceremony?
Dunalastair Hotel Suites in Kinloch Rannoch, on Loch Rannoch below the mountain. Its Library space is licensed for ceremonies up to 25 guests and the hotel can be booked for exclusive use.
What’s the best time of year to climb Schiehallion for photos?
Late spring through early autumn, since the path can hold snow and ice well into the year and the weather on an exposed Munro changes fast regardless of season.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Edinburgh is the most practical option, around 90 minutes away by road, with Glasgow a similar distance for guests coming from further south.
Do we need a permit or permission to marry on the mountain?
You’ll need a registered celebrant and the standard Scottish marriage notice, the same as anywhere else in the country. The land itself has open access under Scotland’s right to roam, so no separate permit is needed to simply be there.
