Aberdeenshire wraps around the city of Aberdeen itself, its lowlands and coast holding some of Scotland’s best-known castles. This page looks at the wider county, separate from the Aberdeen city page elsewhere on this site, which covers venues inside the city itself.

I photograph weddings across the county’s castles and coastline, a ceremony inside an 800-year-old tower, a reception beside yew hedges planted three centuries ago, portraits on a cliff above the sea. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire covers both ends of the scale well, from a 10-guest ceremony inside a 16th-century castle to a 1,000-guest marquee on an 800-year-old estate.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Aberdeenshire: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Aberdeenshire as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues in Aberdeenshire

An 800-year-old castle with room for a thousand, a 16th-century tower house with its own topiary garden, and a cliff-top ruin for portraits.

Wedding venue near Aberdeenshire

Fyvie Castle
Believed to date back to 1211, with five towers each added by a different family who owned it over the centuries. The National Trust for Scotland property seats 100 for a ceremony or dinner, with the Racquets Court holding a further 70 for dining and the grounds taking a marquee for up to 1,000.

Crathes Castle, Banchory
A 16th-century tower house built by the Burnett family between 1553 and 1596, given to the National Trust for Scotland in 1951. The castle itself holds 50 for a ceremony and 40 for dining beside its famous yew hedges, planted in 1702, with the Horsemill nearby taking up to 100 for a ceremony and 80 for dining.

Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven
Honestly, this one is a dramatic ruin rather than a finished venue: ceremonies can take place anywhere in the grounds, including the chapel, but there’s no published capacity and no reception facility on site, so it suits a ceremony and portraits rather than a full day.

Your Aberdeenshire Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, an Aberdeenshire wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between this page and the Aberdeen page?

This page covers Aberdeenshire, the county of castles and coastline around the city. The separate Aberdeen page focuses on venues inside the city itself, like Ardoe House.

Can Fyvie Castle really hold 1,000 guests?

Only as a marquee on the grounds. The castle’s own rooms seat up to 100 for a ceremony or dinner, with the marquee site as the option once numbers grow well past that.

Can we actually have a reception at Dunnottar Castle?

The castle allows ceremonies anywhere in the grounds, but it doesn’t publish a capacity or offer reception facilities on site, so most couples treat it as a ceremony and portrait location and hold the reception elsewhere.

What’s the best time of year for an Aberdeenshire wedding?

May through September for the gardens at Crathes and the outdoor spaces at Dunnottar, though Fyvie and Crathes both run weddings indoors through the colder months too.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Aberdeen International is close to all three venues, generally a 30 to 45 minute drive depending on which part of the county you’re heading to.
