Galway Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Galway’s wedding geography runs well beyond the city itself, out along Lough Corrib to the west of Ireland’s grandest castle hotel, and further again into the quiet valleys of Connemara. This page looks at Galway specifically, separate from the wider Ireland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.
I photograph weddings across the region, a reception in a restored abbey, a drinks reception aboard a Victorian railway carriage, portraits on the shores of Lough Corrib. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Galway
Galway works beautifully for an intimate elopement out in Connemara, and just as well for a grander celebration at one of the castle or abbey venues closer to the city.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Galway: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Galway as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
The Best Wedding Venues in Galway
Three settings across Galway and its edges, from a famous lakeside castle to a restored abbey and a small Connemara lodge.

Ashford Castle, Cong
Honestly, this one sits about 45 minutes north of Galway city, on the shores of Lough Corrib in Co. Mayo, though it’s the venue most couples researching a Galway-area wedding end up asking about. The castle dates back to the early 13th century, and exclusive-use weddings in the George V Dining Room run up to 166 guests, with the smaller Connaught Room holding 40. Wedding blessings can be arranged at nearby Cong or Ballintubber churches.
Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Bushypark
A genuinely closer option, about six minutes from Galway city on the shores of Lough Corrib, built around a restored 18th-century abbey. The Pavilion Function Room seats up to 180 or holds 320 standing, while the restored Abbey itself suits a smaller, more traditional ceremony. For something different, the hotel’s four historic Pullman railway carriages can be booked as a 66-seat wedding dinner.
Lough Inagh Lodge, Recess
A small country house deep in Connemara, about an hour from Galway city on the shores of Lough Inagh. This one is genuinely intimate, capped at 50 guests seated or standing in the Finisglen Room, the choice on this page for a couple who wants a real elopement-scale wedding surrounded by mountains rather than a function room.
Your Galway Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Galway wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this page different from your Ireland page?
The Ireland page on this site covers the whole country. This page looks specifically at Galway and its surrounding region, from a lakeside castle near Cong to a restored abbey minutes from the city and a small lodge deep in Connemara.
Is Ashford Castle actually in Galway?
Technically no, it’s just over the border in Co. Mayo, about 45 minutes from Galway city on Lough Corrib. I’ve included it here because it’s the venue most couples planning a Galway-area wedding ask about first.
What’s the best time of year for a Galway wedding?
Late May through September, same as the rest of Ireland, though Connemara’s weather is genuinely more changeable than the city, worth building a flexible outdoor-portrait plan either way.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Most guests fly into Dublin and drive or take the train west, about two and a half hours by road. Ireland West Airport near Knock has some seasonal European routes and is closer for Ashford Castle or Connemara specifically.
Do we need a wedding planner in Galway?
Not necessarily at Ashford Castle or Glenlo Abbey, both run experienced in-house wedding teams. Lough Inagh Lodge is small enough that a planner isn’t essential either, though its remote location is worth factoring into guest travel planning regardless.
