Friuli Venezia Giulia Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Friuli Venezia Giulia sits in the far northeast corner of Italy, wedged between the Adriatic, the Alps and the Slovenian border, and it still gets overlooked by couples who default to Tuscany or the lakes. What they miss is a region built on the same ingredients: rolling vineyard hills in the Collio, medieval castles with real history attached, and an unhurried pace that comes from simply not being on the well worn Italian wedding circuit yet.
I photograph weddings across this region, in castles above the Gulf of Trieste and among the vine rows of the Collio wine country. This page covers the wider region. If you already know you want to get married in Trieste itself, that city has its own dedicated page with venues local to it. Below are five real venues from the rest of Friuli Venezia Giulia, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Friuli Venezia Giulia
Friuli Venezia Giulia works just as beautifully for intimate elopements as it does for larger and multi-day celebrations.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Friuli Venezia Giulia: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Friuli Venezia Giulia as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
The Best Wedding Venues in Friuli Venezia Giulia
Friuli Venezia Giulia’s best venues range from a 13th century castle in the Collio wine hills to a clifftop castle above the Gulf of Trieste and a Romanesque hilltop abbey, rather than sitting only in Trieste itself. Below are five real venues worth researching first.

Castello di Spessa, Capriva del Friuli
A 13th century castle at the center of a golf and wine resort in the Collio, Castello di Spessa holds ceremonies among the vines and receptions indoors across La Tavernetta and Casa di Caccia, its two connected halls, for 150 to 200 guests. The estate runs 42 rooms and its own Vinum SPA, so a full wedding weekend can stay on one property from ceremony to farewell brunch.
Castello di Duino, Duino
Perched on a clifftop above the Gulf of Trieste, Castello di Duino is where Rainer Maria Rilke wrote the Duino Elegies in 1912, and the family that has owned it for generations, della Torre e Tasso, still opens it for weddings alongside its public museum and park. It holds a maximum of 120 to 130 guests in all weather conditions, with both outdoor terraces over the sea and indoor rooms for a wet weather backup, and evening events run from 7pm.
Tenuta di Angoris, Cormons
An 18th century Austro-Hungarian manor with a vine covered facade, Tenuta di Angoris is a working wine estate in the Collio that holds up to 90 guests. The wine is not a backdrop here, it is the point: the estate bottles its own Collio whites, and a wedding on the property comes with the same grounds that grew what is in your guests’ glasses.
Villa Gallici Deciani, near Udine
Set on 20 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and woodland, Villa Gallici Deciani is a 17th century estate with frescoed interior rooms and space for 100 to 200 guests. It sits about 90 minutes from Venice Marco Polo airport, which makes it a workable choice even for guests flying into Venice rather than Trieste.
Abbazia di Rosazzo, Manzano
A Romanesque hilltop abbey dating to around 1000AD, with frescoes added in 1535, Abbazia di Rosazzo is one of the region’s most requested civil ceremony sites, hosting roughly 25 weddings a year against views over its own vineyard hills. The abbey has firm rules worth knowing early: no rice throwing on the grounds, and no outside catering, so your reception venue and caterer need to be arranged separately from the ceremony itself.
Your Friuli Venezia Giulia Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Friuli Venezia Giulia wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this page different from your Trieste page?
This page covers the wider region, the Collio wine hills and the castles scattered around Udine and the Gulf of Trieste outside the city itself. If you already know you want to get married in Trieste, that page has venues local to the city.
What’s the best time of year for a Friuli Venezia Giulia wedding?
Late spring through early autumn gives the most reliable weather, and it also lines up with the Collio’s growing season, so a May or September wedding means the vineyards around venues like Tenuta di Angoris and Castello di Spessa are visibly green rather than bare.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Trieste Airport is the closest and most direct option for most of these venues. Venice Marco Polo is a workable alternate, particularly for Villa Gallici Deciani near Udine, which sits about 90 minutes from Venice and often has more international flight options.
Do we need a wedding planner here?
Yes, especially if Abbazia di Rosazzo is on your list. The abbey’s rules around rice throwing and outside catering are firm, and a planner who already works in the region will coordinate the ceremony site and a separate reception venue without either side missing a detail.
What makes this region different from Tuscany or Piedmont for a wedding?
The landscape is genuinely similar, wine hills and historic architecture, but the history is different. This is a border region shaped by Austro-Hungarian rule as much as Italian, which shows up in the architecture (Tenuta di Angoris’s Austro-Hungarian manor) and even the wine itself. It is also simply less booked, since far fewer international couples know to look here yet.
