Thingvellir Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Thingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and genuinely one of Iceland’s most meaningful backdrops, the rift valley where the Althing, Iceland’s parliament, met from 930 until 1798, sitting directly on the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This page looks at Thingvellir specifically, separate from the wider Iceland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.
I photograph weddings and elopements here, a ceremony inside the Almannagja canyon, portraits against the rift valley and Lake Thingvallavatn beyond it. Below is what to know about the location itself, plus the questions couples ask me most before planning a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Pingvellier
Thingvellir works beautifully for an intimate elopement, since it’s a national park rather than a venue, timing around quieter hours matters more than guest count.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Thingvellir: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Thingvellir as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
About Thingvellir
A UNESCO rift valley and former parliament site, not a bookable venue, within easy reach of Reykjavik.

Thingvellir National Park
Founded in 1930 to mark a thousand years since the Althing’s first gathering here, and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. The Almannagja canyon, the park’s largest fault, cuts through the rift valley where the Law Rock, the Althing’s focal point, once stood. There’s no venue infrastructure, this is a national park, so a ceremony here means bringing your own certified officiant and working within the park’s access rules.
Lake Thingvallavatn
Iceland’s largest natural lake, bordering the park to the south, with the Silfra fissure nearby, better known for snorkelling between the tectonic plates than for wedding portraits, but a genuinely striking part of the wider landscape.
Your Thingvellir Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Thingvellir wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

If it feels right, we move forward – and on the day itself, you can be fully present while I take care of documenting everything.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this page different from your Iceland page?
The Iceland page on this site covers the whole country. This page looks specifically at Thingvellir, a UNESCO site and former parliament ground within the Golden Circle.
Do we need a permit for a wedding at Thingvellir?
It’s a national park, so I’d confirm current access and ceremony rules directly with the park authority before planning anything, rather than assume it’s open access like a public beach.
How far is it from Reykjavik?
About 45 minutes by road, making it the closest of the dramatic-landscape locations on this site to the capital, and an easy half-day trip.
What’s the best time of day for a Thingvellir ceremony?
Early morning, well before the tour buses arrive. It’s one of the most visited sites in Iceland and part of the Golden Circle day-trip route, so midday can get genuinely crowded.
Can we combine Thingvellir with other Golden Circle stops on the same trip?
Yes, this is common, Thingvellir paired with Geysir and Gullfoss on the same day, or spread across a longer trip. I’m happy to build a coverage plan around however your Golden Circle route is shaped.
