Stirling sits almost exactly between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and its castle, on a volcanic crag above the city, has hosted Scottish royalty for centuries. This page looks at Stirling specifically, separate from the Scotland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings across the city and its surrounds, a ceremony inside a royal castle after the crowds have gone, a reception at a modern hotel, portraits around the city’s medieval streets. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Stirling

Stirling Castle alone can flex from an intimate ceremony in the Royal Palace to a 300-guest reception in the Great Hall.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Stirling: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Stirling as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues in Stirling

A royal castle with several bookable rooms, a modern hotel on the university campus, and a film-famous castle nearby for portraits.

Wedding venue near Stirling

Stirling Castle
A working royal castle on its own volcanic crag above the city. The Chapel Royal takes a ceremony of up to 240 and a reception for up to 200, the Great Hall holds up to 300 for a reception, and the Royal Palace, far more intimate, takes 30 to 60 for a dinner or ceremony. Weddings can only happen after the castle closes to the public, at 5pm in winter or 6pm in summer.

Stirling Court Hotel
A modern hotel on the University of Stirling campus, with its Windows on the Wallace conservatory space among its event rooms. No wedding-specific capacity is published for that room, so I’d confirm numbers directly.

Doune Castle
Not a bookable venue, but worth knowing about regardless, a 14th-century castle a short drive from Stirling, familiar to many visitors as a filming location for both Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Outlander. It makes for a genuinely distinctive backdrop for portraits.

Your Stirling Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Stirling wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we really get married inside Stirling Castle after hours?

Yes, that’s how every wedding there happens, booked after the castle closes to day visitors, 5pm in winter or 6pm in summer, with the Chapel Royal, Great Hall or Royal Palace as your ceremony and reception spaces depending on numbers.

Is Doune Castle actually a wedding venue?

No, it isn’t set up to host ceremonies. I mention it because it’s a short drive from Stirling and genuinely well known, as a filming location for Monty Python and the Holy Grail and for Outlander, which makes it a strong portrait location rather than a venue.

What’s the best time of year for a Stirling wedding?

May through September gives the most daylight and the mildest weather, though as with the rest of Scotland, I’d plan an indoor backup regardless of the month you choose.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Stirling has no airport of its own; Edinburgh and Glasgow are both under an hour away by road, and either works well given Stirling’s central position between the two.

Do we need a wedding planner for Stirling Castle?

I’d recommend one. Booking around the castle’s public opening hours and coordinating catering and access for an after-hours wedding benefits from someone who already knows the venue’s routine.
