Lake Constance is unusual on this site: it’s a lake shared by three countries, and this page covers canton Thurgau, the gentle Swiss shore dotted with moated castles, working farms, and countryside estates rather than one single city. This page looks at the Swiss side of Lake Constance specifically, separate from the Switzerland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings in and around the region, a reception inside a genuine moated castle, a ceremony at a baroque country palace or a former monastery, portraits across vineyards and lake views that stretch into Germany and Austria. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings at Lake Constance

The Lake Constance region works for both an intimate ceremony and a larger celebration, and a venue like Hagenwil Moated Castle can scale from a small group to an aperitif for 300.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer at Lake Constance: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage at Lake Constance as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues at Lake Constance

A medieval moated castle, a baroque country palace, and a former monastery, all within the Thurgau countryside above the lake.

Wedding venue near Lake Constance

Hagenwil Moated Castle
A genuinely medieval castle ringed by a water moat in the Thurgau countryside, hosting both civil and religious ceremonies plus an outdoor option above the surrounding vineyards. Per the regional tourism board, it handles an aperitif for up to 300 guests, with the reception itself capped around 100.

Roggwil Castle
A 17th-century baroque country palace available as a whole-castle rental, a single hall, or just the castle meadow, scaling from 25 guests up to 150 depending on which you choose.

Freudenfels Castle
Set above Lake Constance itself with views over the water toward Stein am Rhein, with a chapel for the ceremony and a rose garden for photos. Banquets run up to 65 guests, receptions up to 120.

Ittingen Charterhouse
A former Carthusian monastery complex with its own gardens and banquet halls scaling from as few as 10 guests up to 250, still following the monastery’s tradition of preparing its own food on-site.

Schloss Arenenberg
Not a bookable venue, but worth knowing for portraits: a 16th-century chateau on the lakeshore in Salenstein, the final home of Hortense de Beauharnais and the boyhood home of the future Napoleon III, now Thurgau’s Napoleon Museum. The open water of the lake itself, with Germany and Austria visible on a clear day, rounds out the portrait locations here.

Your Lake Constance Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Lake Constance wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Switzerland page?

The Switzerland page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at the Swiss shore of Lake Constance, in canton Thurgau.

What’s the best time of year for a Lake Constance wedding?

Late May through June and September give the most reliable weather, with the vineyards and orchards around the lake at their best in early autumn specifically.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Zurich Airport is the practical choice, a little over an hour away by car or train, genuinely one of the easier Swiss connections for guests arriving from abroad.

Is a Swiss wedding ceremony actually legally binding, or just symbolic?

Only a civil ceremony booked through the local civil registry (Zivilstandsamt) in canton Thurgau is legally binding, any religious or symbolic ceremony has to follow it rather than replace it. If neither of you lives in Switzerland, the paperwork goes through a Swiss representation abroad first and the whole process typically takes two to six months, so I’d build that timeline in early if a legal Swiss wedding is the plan.

Do we need a wedding planner for a Lake Constance wedding?

I’d genuinely recommend one for this region specifically. Several of these venues are working farms, wineries, or small family-run estates rather than full-service hotels, so coordinating catering, rentals, and setup usually takes more hands-on planning than a grand hotel wedding would.
