Basel Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Basel sits on the Rhine where Switzerland, France and Germany meet, a city with a genuinely well-preserved medieval Old Town and a river running straight through its center. This page looks at Basel specifically, separate from the Switzerland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.
I photograph weddings in and around the city, a reception inside a moated castle outside town, a ceremony at one of Europe’s oldest riverside hotels, portraits through the Old Town and along the Rhine itself. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Basel
Basel works for both an intimate ceremony and a larger celebration, and a venue like the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois can scale from a small library room to a full ballroom.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Basel: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Basel as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
The Wedding Venues at Basel
A 13th-century moated castle outside the city, one of Europe’s oldest riverside hotels, and the Rhine itself for portraits.

Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois
Described by an independent event-industry source as one of Europe’s oldest city hotels, sitting right on the Rhine in the Old Town. Its own wedding package, Mariage Royal, includes a champagne reception, a four-course menu, a wedding cake, an in-house florist, and a Rhine-view suite for the couple; the two named reception rooms are the Salle Belle Epoque (up to 160 seated, or 350 for a standing reception) and the smaller Salle des Rois (up to 100, divisible into as many as three rooms). I’d still confirm current pricing and availability directly, since these figures come from the hotel’s own wedding-planning listing rather than a page I could independently verify.
Weiherschloss Bottmingen
A moated castle dating to the 13th century in the village of Bottmingen just outside Basel, owned by the canton since 1957 and protected as a historic monument. It operates today as an event venue with a garden terrace and modern French-inspired cuisine, and its own material refers to hosting a “Traumhochzeit” (dream wedding); no guest capacity is published, so I’d confirm numbers directly with the venue.
Basel Münster and the Old Town
Not a bookable venue. The red sandstone cathedral above the Rhine and the surrounding Old Town streets are where I’d plan portraits, along with the riverbank itself, home to Basel’s small fleet of historic cable ferries that cross the Rhine using only the current, no motor involved, a detail that’s genuinely unique to this city.
Your Basel Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Basel wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this page different from your Switzerland page?
The Switzerland page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at Basel, a Rhine-side city where Switzerland, France and Germany meet.
What’s the best time of year for a Basel wedding?
Late May through June and September give the most reliable weather while avoiding the heaviest summer crowds, and avoid early spring if Basel’s Fasnacht carnival dates matter to your guest list, since the city gets genuinely busy around it.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
EuroAirport Basel is genuinely unusual: one airport shared by Switzerland, France and Germany, with separate French and Swiss exits from the same terminal. Guests landing on the French side still only need a short transfer into Basel itself.
Is a Swiss wedding ceremony actually legally binding, or just symbolic?
Only a civil ceremony booked through Basel’s civil registry (Zivilstandsamt) is legally binding, any religious or symbolic ceremony has to follow it rather than replace it. If neither of you lives in Switzerland, the paperwork goes through a Swiss representation abroad first and the whole process typically takes two to six months, so I’d build that timeline in early if a legal Swiss wedding is the plan.
Do we need a wedding planner in Basel?
For a venue like the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, the hotel’s own wedding team and in-house florist handle much of the coordination. For a venue like Weiherschloss Bottmingen, or for the civil-ceremony paperwork specifically, I’d still recommend a local planner familiar with Swiss registry requirements.
