Athens is both a city wedding and a coastal one, the Acropolis and Plaka’s old lanes in the centre, and the Athens Riviera’s resorts and cliff-top estates stretching along the coast toward Cape Sounio. This page looks at Athens specifically, separate from the Greece country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings across the city and coast, a ceremony on a cliff-top terrace, a reception in a historic ballroom, portraits through Plaka’s old streets. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Athens

Athens scales from an intimate city elopement to a large resort wedding on the Riviera for several hundred guests, with plenty of room to find the right size venue either way.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Athens: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Athens as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues in Athens

A beachfront resort on the Athens Riviera, a historic ballroom on Syntagma Square, a cliff-top estate, and the Temple of Poseidon for portraits.

Wedding venue near Athens

Four Seasons Astir Palace, Vouliagmeni
A beachfront resort on the Athens Riviera, about 30 minutes from the airport, with private beach access for wedding guests and spaces ranging from an Astir Cape ceremony for 100 up to a Plateia Terrace reception for 700. Outdoor live music is capped at 65 decibels and must end by 11pm.

Hotel Grande Bretagne, Syntagma Square
A historic hotel in the centre of Athens, its Grand Ballroom holding up to 500 for a reception or 408 for a seated banquet, divisible into three smaller rooms, and displaying antiquities sourced from major auction houses.

Island Residence, Varkiza
A cliff-top estate on the Athens Riviera overlooking the Aegean toward Cape Sounio, with five indoor and outdoor event spaces and a waterside chapel for a symbolic ceremony. Published capacity figures vary across the venue’s own materials, so I’d confirm the real number for your group size directly.

Cape Sounio, a Grecotel Resort
A resort about an hour from Athens, its beachside ceremony space sitting almost beneath the ancient Temple of Poseidon, with capacity up to roughly 350 guests.

The Acropolis and Plaka
Not bookable venues. The Acropolis is governed by its own permit process for photography beyond personal use, worth confirming with the Ephorate of Antiquities well ahead of time; Plaka’s old lanes beneath it are free to photograph and among the most atmospheric streets in the city.

Your Athens Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, an Athens wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Greece page?

The Greece page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at Athens and the Athens Riviera, a mix of city venues near the Acropolis and coastal resorts further south, rather than an island destination.

What’s the best time of year for an Athens wedding?

May, June and late September into October give warm, comfortable weather without the full heat of an Athens summer, when city-centre temperatures can climb well into the thirties.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Athens International Airport is Greece’s main gateway, with direct flights from across Europe and several intercontinental routes, so it works for every venue on this page, city or Riviera.

Do we need a permit to photograph at the Acropolis?

Personal photography is generally fine, but anything beyond that falls under a separate permit process through the Ephorate of Antiquities, typically filed at least a month ahead. I’d confirm the exact requirements before planning a shoot there.

Do we need a wedding planner in Athens?

Yes, I’d recommend one, particularly for a large hotel ballroom or a Riviera resort, where a planner already familiar with the property and local permit requirements saves real coordination time for a couple planning from abroad.
