Lugano sits on its own lake in Ticino, Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region, ringed by Monte San Salvatore and Monte Brè and genuinely different in feel from the German-speaking cities elsewhere on this site. This page looks at Lugano specifically, separate from the Switzerland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings in and around the city, a reception on a hilltop villa’s terrace, a ceremony at a lakefront hotel’s own chapel, portraits along the lake promenade and in the village widely voted Switzerland’s most beautiful. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Lugano

Lugano works for both an intimate ceremony and a larger celebration, and a hilltop villa like Villa Principe Leopoldo can scale from a single terrace to several connected rooms.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Lugano: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Lugano as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues at Lugano

Wedding venue near Lugano

Villa Principe Leopoldo
A historical residence on Lugano’s Collina d’Oro hillside, now a luxury hotel with lake and mountain views and a royal-palace feel. The property actively promotes itself as a wedding venue, with panoramic terraces and gardens for the ceremony; its largest connected rooms, Montalbano and Melograno, are listed at up to 130 guests for a reception or around 110 for a seated banquet (the hotel’s own materials give a separate, inconsistent figure of 220 participants across six rooms combined, so I’d confirm the real number for your group size directly).

Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola
The former residence of a Russian aristocratic family, built in 1880, now a five-star hotel inside its own subtropical park on the shore of Lake Lugano. Weddings can be held in a 17th-century chapel within the grounds, with a reception afterward in rooms such as Salone Arté al Lago or Salone del Camino (each banqueting up to 80) or the larger Sala delle Palme (up to 110 for a concert-style setup, closer to 70 for a seated dinner). I’d confirm final numbers with the hotel, since these figures come from its own tourism-board listing.

Tenuta Castello di Morcote
A medieval castle and organic wine estate above Lake Lugano in Vico Morcote, right next to Morcote itself, a village voted “the most beautiful village in Switzerland” in a 2016 public competition and named a UNWTO Best Tourism Village in 2023. Couples can hold an intimate ceremony inside the castle or a larger celebration under a marquee on the estate, with dinners paired with the estate’s own wines; no guest capacity is published, so I’d confirm numbers directly.

Morcote and the Lake Lugano Promenade
Not bookable venues. The stacked stone houses and lakeside arcades of Morcote, and the promenade and Old Town around Piazza della Riforma, are where I’d plan portraits, along with the funicular views from Monte San Salvatore above the lake.

Your Lugano Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Lugano wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Switzerland page?

The Switzerland page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at Lugano, a lakeside city in Ticino, Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region.

What’s the best time of year for a Lugano wedding?

Late May through June and September give the most reliable weather and the mildest temperatures, since Ticino summers can run genuinely hot and humid by Swiss standards.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Lugano’s own airport hasn’t had scheduled passenger flights since 2019, so most guests fly into Milan Malpensa, about an hour away by car or train, with Zurich Airport plus a train connection as the other realistic option.

Is a Swiss wedding ceremony actually legally binding, or just symbolic?

Only a civil ceremony booked through Lugano’s civil registry (Ufficio dello stato civile) is legally binding, any religious or symbolic ceremony has to follow it rather than replace it. If neither of you lives in Switzerland, the paperwork goes through a Swiss representation abroad first and the whole process typically takes two to six months, so I’d build that timeline in early if a legal Swiss wedding is the plan.

Do we need a wedding planner in Lugano?

For a venue like Villa Principe Leopoldo or Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, the hotel’s own events team handles much of the coordination. For a private estate like Tenuta Castello di Morcote, or for the civil-ceremony paperwork specifically, I’d still recommend a local planner, ideally one comfortable working in Italian.
