Zermatt sits at the foot of the Matterhorn, a car-free village reached only by train, with a history tied to the earliest days of Alpine mountaineering. This page looks at Zermatt specifically, separate from the Switzerland country page elsewhere on this site, which spreads out across the whole country.

I photograph weddings in and around the village, a ceremony in a 19th-century mountaineers’ church, a reception at a resort reached by mountain railway, portraits on the car-free streets with the Matterhorn above. Below are the real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Zermatt

Zermatt works best for an intimate ceremony or elopement, since the village’s own venues are genuinely small and the setting itself is the main draw.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Zermatt: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Zermatt as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Wedding Venues at Zermatt

A 19th-century mountaineers’ church, a mountain resort reached by train, and the Matterhorn itself for portraits.

Wedding venue near Zermatt

St Peter’s English Church
Consecrated in 1870 for the English-speaking mountaineers and early tourists who put Zermatt on the map, this Anglican church is tied directly to the Matterhorn’s first ascent: Reverend Charles Hudson, who died in the 1865 descent, is buried under its altar. Weddings can be arranged there through the Intercontinental Church Society, which rotates a seasonal chaplain through the village; Swiss law still requires a civil ceremony first, this would be the religious service afterward. No guest capacity is published.

CERVO Mountain Resort
A modern alpine resort of 54 rooms and suites plus 7 lodges, which offers an outdoor ceremony on its terrace or an indoor alternative, both with mountain views; no guest capacity is published, so I’d confirm directly.

Riffelalp Resort 2222m
A resort at 2,222 metres reached only by the Gornergrat mountain railway, with its own secular chapel for evangelical, ecumenical, or independent-celebrant ceremonies, plus a full exclusive-use buyout option; no guest capacity is published.

The Matterhorn and the Car-Free Village Streets
Not a bookable venue. Zermatt’s traffic-free streets and the Matterhorn itself, visible from almost everywhere in the village, are where I’d plan portraits.

Your Zermatt Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Zermatt wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Switzerland page?

The Switzerland page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at Zermatt, a car-free mountain village under the Matterhorn with its own 19th-century English church.

What’s the best time of year for a Zermatt wedding?

Late June through September give the most reliable weather for an outdoor mountain ceremony, while winter brings a snow-covered Matterhorn backdrop at the cost of shorter days.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Zermatt has no airport and no road access at all, guests fly into Zurich or Geneva, then take the train to Täsch and a short connecting shuttle train into the car-free village itself.

Is a Swiss wedding ceremony actually legally binding, or just symbolic?

Zermatt’s own civil registry is the only body that can make the marriage legally binding here, a religious or symbolic ceremony on its own doesn’t count. For couples who don’t live in Switzerland, that paperwork routes through a Swiss representation abroad before it reaches the registry, and the whole process usually takes two to six months, worth starting early if a legally Swiss wedding matters to you.

Do we need a wedding planner in Zermatt?

CERVO Mountain Resort runs its own events team, so a lot of the day-to-day coordination is already covered. Where a planner still earns their fee is the civil-ceremony paperwork, since that goes through Swiss registry rules a local specialist will know better than a venue coordinator would.
