Ljubljana Wedding Photographer
with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Ljubljana is Slovenia’s capital, a small, walkable city built around the Ljubljanica river, with a hilltop castle looking down over the old town’s green-domed churches and dragon-topped bridges. Unlike the elopement-only pages on this site, Ljubljana is a full wedding destination: there are grand hotel ballrooms, a riverside Renaissance castle, and a protocol estate used for state visits, all within half an hour of each other. This page looks specifically at Ljubljana, separate from the wider Slovenia page elsewhere on this site.
I photograph weddings across the city and the surrounding Gorenjska countryside: a courtyard with surviving Renaissance frescoes, a lakeside park with its own islands, a 240-year-old homestead turned wedding venue. Below are five real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Ljubljana
Ljubljana works just as beautifully for intimate elopements as it does for larger and multi-day celebrations.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Ljubljana: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Ljubljana as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
The Best Wedding Venues in Ljubljana
Five venues in and around Slovenia’s capital, from a riverside Renaissance castle to a downtown congress hotel.

Fužine Castle, Ljubljana
A Renaissance castle on the Ljubljanica river at the quieter southern edge of the city, its courtyard and halls still carry remnants of the original frescoes. The combined halls and courtyard scale from a reception for 250 up to 800 guests, or you can take just one wing for something smaller. It’s a ten-minute drive from the center that feels like it belongs to a different century.
Brdo Castle Estate, near Kranj
About 25 minutes from Ljubljana, Brdo is a protocol estate with more than 500 years of history, still used for state visits. The grounds hold avenues, bridges, and two lakes with small islands, including one covered in water lilies in summer that suits a ceremony with close family, with the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the background. A modern congress center on site handles the indoor option when the weather doesn’t cooperate. It reads formal rather than rustic, a good fit for a couple who wants real grandeur.
Dvor Jezeršek, near Kranj and Brnik Airport
A renovated 240-year-old homestead run by the Jezeršek catering family, with the wedding itself held in the former barn, a restaurant on the ground floor and a hall and gallery upstairs. It holds up to 144 to 168 guests across both floors, and the civil ceremony can happen right there, in the garden or the hall, so the day doesn’t depend on the weather. The couple gets a room for the night at no extra cost, which matters more than it sounds given how close this sits to Ljubljana’s own airport.
Gostilna Livada, Trnovo
A neighborhood inn with a garden on the Ljubljanica riverbank, a few minutes from the historic center. It’s honestly more of a relaxed local gostilna spread across a few rooms than a polished grand venue, and I’d say so plainly rather than oversell it, but that’s exactly what suits a couple who wants an unpretentious reception within walking distance of town rather than a formal hotel ballroom.
Grand Plaza Hotel & Congress Centre, Ljubljana
A five-star hotel in the city, newer than the rest of this list, built around its own congress-center event spaces. The modern choice for a couple who wants the ceremony, the reception, and everyone’s rooms under one downtown roof, with full hotel infrastructure handling the logistics.
Your Ljubljana Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Ljubljana wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this page different from your Slovenia page?
The Slovenia page on this site covers the country broadly, the coast, the Julian Alps, and elopement-focused towns like Kranjska Gora. This page looks specifically at Ljubljana and the venues in and around the capital.
Can we have a big wedding in Ljubljana, or is it mostly for elopements?
Ljubljana is a full wedding destination, not an elopement-only page like some of the smaller towns on this site. The venues above scale from an intimate reception for 50 up to a grand hall for 800, so the city works for both a quiet elopement and a large multi-day celebration.
Do we need a separate civil ceremony for the marriage to be legal?
In Slovenia, a marriage is only legally recognized once it’s registered by a civil officiant, so most couples handle that quietly beforehand or at a registered venue (Ljubljana’s own Wedding Halls at the castle handle hundreds of these a year), then hold their symbolic or religious ceremony at the venue on the day. Worth confirming with your venue or planner exactly how they handle the two parts.
What’s the best time of year for a Ljubljana wedding?
Late May through September gives the warmest, most settled weather, which matters for the riverside and garden venues on this page, Fužine’s courtyard and Livada’s riverbank both depend on dry weather more than an indoor ballroom would.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport sits right by Brnik, 25 to 30 minutes from downtown and a few minutes from Dvor Jezeršek. Trieste in Italy and Klagenfurt in Austria are both under two hours and worth checking if guests find better fares flying into either.
