Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes stretches from the volcanic Auvergne plateau, the Chaîne des Puys rising straight out of farmland west of Clermont-Ferrand, to Lyon and the Alps around Chamonix and Val d’Isère, each with its own dedicated page linked below. This page itself stays focused on Auvergne specifically, moated châteaux tucked into the hills rather than grand function venues built for the purpose.

I photograph weddings in and around the region, a reception inside a moated medieval château, a ceremony beside a row of waterfalls on a historic estate, portraits on the lava-dome summit overlooking the volcanoes. Below are the Alpine and city destinations, the real Auvergne venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

Lyon, Chamonix and Val d’Isère each have their own dedicated page with real venues and FAQs. This page covers Auvergne specifically; for the city and the Alps, start with whichever fits your plans.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Auvergne

Auvergne works just as beautifully for intimate elopements as it does for larger and multi-day celebrations.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Auvergne as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Best Wedding Venues in Auvergne

A moated medieval château in the Livradois-Forez forest, and a historic estate with its own waterfalls near Clermont-Ferrand, plus the Puy de Dôme volcano itself for portraits.

Wedding venue near Auvergne, France

Château des Martinanches
An 11th-century family château in Saint-Dier-d’Auvergne, inside the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park about 35 minutes from Clermont-Ferrand. Moated and partly classified as a historic monument, with medieval vaulted salons and a reflecting pool. The main hall holds up to about 180 seated or 230 for a standing reception, with eight bedrooms on site for around 30 guests.

Château de La Batisse
A historic-monument château in Chanonat, about ten minutes from Clermont-Ferrand, built around an old mill with a row of four waterfalls as its signature photo spot. Reported capacity varies by source, roughly 200 for a seated dinner and more for a standing reception, worth confirming directly with the venue for your date.

Puy de Dôme
Not a bookable venue, the lava-dome volcano overlooking Clermont-Ferrand, part of the UNESCO-listed Chaîne des Puys and reached by funicular. The summit’s panoramic views over the volcanic landscape make it a striking stop for portraits, ceremony logistics permitting.

Your Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, an Auvergne wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your France page?

The France page on this site covers the country broadly. This page looks specifically at Auvergne’s volcanic landscape and the château venues around Clermont-Ferrand.

What’s the best time of year for an Auvergne wedding?

Late May through September gives the most reliable weather at this altitude. Summer evenings cool off quickly here compared to the rest of France, worth factoring into an outdoor reception timeline.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Clermont-Auvergne Airport has some direct European flights, but Lyon-Saint Exupéry, about two hours away, usually gives international guests more options.

Can we actually get married on top of Puy de Dôme?

A ceremony up there needs separate permission given it’s a protected natural site reached by funicular, so it works better as a portrait stop built into the day than as the ceremony location itself.

Do we need a wedding planner in Auvergne?

For a venue like Château des Martinanches or Château de La Batisse, yes, a local planner is worth it, especially for confirming capacity and logistics directly with the estate.
