Iceland Wedding Photographer with a Documentary and Editorial Style

Iceland works differently from most destinations on this site: instead of castles or ballrooms, couples choose a landscape backdrop and a small legal ceremony, often with just two witnesses required. Reykjavik has the one real indoor venue, City Hall, while everywhere else on this page is genuinely a portrait and elopement location rather than a bookable room. Each location below has earned its own dedicated guide, with honest notes on what’s actually bookable and what isn’t.
I photograph weddings and elopements across the country, a brief civil ceremony in Reykjavik, a portrait session among drifting icebergs, a ceremony inside a rift valley where two continents meet. Below is where to start, location by location, plus the questions couples ask me most before planning a wedding in Iceland.
From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Iceland
Iceland works just as beautifully for intimate elopements as it does for a small wedding party, the landscape itself tends to be the point rather than the guest count.
I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding
No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Iceland: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage
Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Iceland as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.
Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.
For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.
This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.
Explore Weddings by City
Six locations across Iceland, each with its own dedicated page: honest notes on what’s bookable, what isn’t, and the logistics couples ask about most before booking there.
- Reykjavik: a small civil ceremony inside City Hall, then portraits across the harbour and old town.
- Akureyri: a landmark 1940 parish church and Iceland’s first public garden, in the quieter north.
- Glacier Lagoon: drifting icebergs on Jokulsarlon, honestly a landscape backdrop rather than a venue.
- Blue Lagoon: a geothermal spa on the Reykjanes peninsula, a striking portrait backdrop rather than a ceremony site.
- Thingvellir: a UNESCO rift valley where two tectonic plates meet, and Iceland’s former parliament ground.
- Gullfoss: a thundering two-tiered waterfall on the Golden Circle, best for portraits given the crowds.
Your Iceland Wedding Photographer
I’m Dejan, a Iceland wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.
I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Icelandic location is the right fit for our wedding?
It depends mostly on whether you want a civil ceremony or a landscape elopement. Reykjavik’s City Hall is the one genuine indoor venue on this list, while Thingvellir, the Glacier Lagoon and Gullfoss are all landscape backdrops for couples who want the scenery itself to be the main event.
What’s the best time of year for a wedding in Iceland?
May through September gives the longest daylight and the easiest driving conditions for the landscape locations. Winter brings real appeal too, shorter days but a genuine chance at the northern lights, especially around Thingvellir or the Glacier Lagoon.
What do we need to legally marry in Iceland as foreign nationals?
Notice of marriage, birth certificates, a certificate of marital status, valid passports and certified translations where needed, submitted to the National Registry in Reykjavik at least three weeks ahead. A certified officiant performs the ceremony, with two witnesses present, and each location’s page covers venue-specific detail.
Which airport should our guests fly into?
Keflavik International Airport is Iceland’s main gateway, about 45 minutes from Reykjavik and 20 minutes from the Blue Lagoon. Akureyri has its own small domestic airport reached by a connecting flight from Reykjavik.
Can you photograph weddings across more than one Icelandic location on the same trip?
Yes, this is genuinely common, a Reykjavik ceremony followed by a Golden Circle portrait day at Thingvellir and Gullfoss, or a longer south coast trip out to the Glacier Lagoon. I’m happy to build a multi-day coverage plan around however your route is shaped.
