Venice is its own subject, separate from the Lake Garda hillsides and Prosecco hill towns on the Veneto region page. There is no other city like it for a wedding, no cars, no roads, guests arriving by water taxi and a skyline that hasn’t changed much since the paintings that made it famous. What surprises most couples is how differently a Venice wedding can actually run. A palazzo with its own private garden directly on the Grand Canal is one version of it. An entire private island in the lagoon, a fifteen minute boat ride from Piazza San Marco, is another. A rococo villa on the Brenta Canal, on the mainland edge of the city, is a third, quieter and considerably more affordable.

I photograph weddings across all three settings. This page covers Venice itself, its lagoon islands and the Brenta Canal leading toward it. Below are four real venues worth knowing, plus the questions couples ask me most before booking a wedding here.

From Intimate Elopements to Big Weddings in Venice

Venice works just as beautifully for intimate elopements as it does for larger and multi-day celebrations.

I photograph:
– quiet, intentional elopements with just the two of you
– small weddings with close family and friends
– full wedding days with a larger guest count
– multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and relaxed moments before or after the wedding

No matter the size or length of the celebration, my focus is always the same: real moments, strong atmosphere, and portraits that feel natural rather than posed. The scale may change, but the intention doesn’t.

Wedding Videographer in Venice: Photo and Hybrid Video Coverage

Alongside photography, I also offer wedding video coverage in Venice as part of a hybrid photo and video approach.

Video is treated as an extension of the photography, captured with the same sensitivity to light, timing, and atmosphere. The focus stays on real moments, movement, and sound, without staged scenes or intrusive production.

For weddings that benefit from an additional perspective, a dedicated videographer can also be included, always working in the same calm, unobtrusive way and fully aligned with how I photograph the day.

This approach works especially well for destination weddings, where intimacy, setting, and emotion matter more than spectacle.

The Best Wedding Venues in Venice

Four venues across Venice, from a private palazzo garden on the Grand Canal to an entire private island in the lagoon and a rococo villa on the Brenta Canal.

Wedding venue in Venice, Veneto

Aman Venice, Palazzo Papadopoli
A 24 room hotel inside a 16th century palazzo on the Grand Canal, with one of only two private gardens directly on the water in all of Venice. Aman Venice takes the whole property for one wedding at a time, Fortuny fabrics and hand painted ceilings throughout, and it’s where George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin held their wedding celebrations in 2014. It is the venue on this page for a couple who wants the entire Grand Canal address to themselves rather than a shared hotel floor.

Ca’ Sagredo Hotel, near the Rialto Bridge
A 15th century Grand Canal palace a short walk from the Rialto, with a frescoed piano nobile ballroom that once hosted Venetian nobility and now hosts wedding receptions under the same ceilings. The hotel has its own private water entrance, so guests arrive the way this city was always meant to be arrived at, by boat, stepping straight off the Grand Canal into the palace.

San Clemente Palace Kempinski, San Clemente Island
An entire private island in the lagoon, about fifteen minutes by the hotel’s own boat shuttle from St. Mark’s Square, built around a former 12th century monastery. San Clemente Palace Kempinski gives you gardens that cover much of the island itself, genuine seclusion in a city that otherwise never quite gets it, and full control over who’s actually on the property with you for the day.

Villa Widmann Rezzonico Foscari, Mira
On the Brenta Canal in Mira, on the mainland side of Venice, this 18th century villa has a rococo ballroom with ceiling frescoes by Giuseppe Angeli and is run for weddings and events through the local municipal heritage authority. It is the option on this page for a couple who wants Venetian villa architecture, a real garden to move through between ceremony and reception, and a mainland setting that costs and logistics considerably easier than the historic center itself.

Your Venice Wedding Photographer

I’m Dejan, a Venice wedding photographer.
My focus is always the wedding itself, not performances for the camera. The photos are simply a reflection of the day: genuine, calm, and emotionally grounded.

I take my work seriously, but never myself too seriously. A relaxed atmosphere, clear communication, and quiet confidence make all the difference, especially for destination weddings.

From the moment we met Dejan, he made us feel completely at ease. He has a calm and kind presence, and captured every emotion of the day in a way that felt honest and natural. Nothing felt forced or over-posed, yet he was always in the right place at the right time. His work feels intimate and timeless, and we’ll treasure these photos for the rest of our lives.

Looking for More of Veneto?

This page covers Venice specifically, distinct from the Veneto region page it sits under. Looking for more of Veneto? See the full regional guide for venues across the whole region too. If you’re also considering nearby cities, my Padua, Treviso and Verona pages are live as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this page different from your Veneto region page?

The region page covers Lake Garda’s hillside estates, the Prosecco hill towns and the Euganean thermal parkland, all outside Venice itself. This page covers Venice’s historic center, its lagoon islands and the Brenta Canal villas leading out toward the mainland, a different city and a different logistics picture entirely.

Can we have a legal wedding ceremony out on the water?

The legal ceremony itself has to happen on land, either at a comune approved site or at a private venue authorized to host one. What you can absolutely do is build boat transport and water based portraits into the day around it, arriving by water taxi is often the most memorable part of a Venice wedding regardless of where the ceremony takes place.

What’s the best time of year for a Venice wedding?

April through June and September through October give the best balance of comfortable weather and manageable crowds. August is hot and genuinely packed with tourists, and late autumn through winter carries real acqua alta flooding risk, worth checking against your date if you’re set on that time of year.

Which airport should our guests fly into?

Venice Marco Polo Airport, with a water taxi or land taxi connection straight into the city or lagoon islands depending on your venue. Treviso Airport works as a budget alternative for guests on certain low cost carriers, about forty minutes further out.

Do we need a wedding planner in Venice?

Yes, more than in most places on this site. Boat logistics for guests and vendors, tide schedules, and permits for photography in some of the more popular public locations all need someone who already knows how this city actually works day to day, not just how it photographs.
